About
A firm already knows its clients. The knowledge just is not anywhere.
It is in a partner’s head, in last year’s workpapers, in an email thread from March, in the margin of a printed organizer. Docenta is where it goes instead.
What Docenta is
Docenta is the living client record for CPA firms. It reads what a client sends into that record, the Client Vault, and runs agents that assemble the firm’s own workpapers from it, every figure traced to the page it came from.
Nobody fills the record in. Facts are born in the work, a document read or a figure tied out, and compound across seasons.

One figure, end to end: W-2 box 1, read, cited and accepted. Illustrative, not a real client.
Where the name comes from
A docent walks you through a collection. Not the curator, who decides what the collection is, and not a guide reciting a script. A docent knows the holdings well enough to tell you what matters in the room you are standing in.
A firm’s book is a collection. The software walks you through it; the firm owns it.
What the agents do, and what they do not
Agents read documents, assemble workpapers from your templates, chase clients for what has not arrived, draft the federal Form 1040 for your preparer to review, screen each client for the planning worth raising, draft research memos against verifiable authority, and answer questions across the whole book at once.
They do not file, and they do not decide a position on a return. When an agent is not certain, or a new value contradicts the file, it stops and asks a person.

Who is building it
A small team: CPAs, and the product people and engineers who built compliance software at fintech companies. One half has done the work this product does. The other has shipped systems that had to hold up under examination.
We work directly with the firms we onboard. No support queue stands between a firm and the people writing the code.
What does not exist yet
Docenta is onboarding firms by invitation through the 2027 season.
No SOC 2 Type II report.
We are not audited yet, and every vendor questionnaire we answer says so.
A small number of firms.
Running against real returns, but few firms. We cannot give you twenty reference calls.
Uneven coverage.
Deepest on individual and pass-through returns. Thinner elsewhere.
What holds regardless
Isolated in the database.
The boundary between firms is row-level security in Postgres, not a check in our application code that a bug can skip.
Never used to train models.
Not by us, and not by the model provider. It is in the contract rather than on a marketing page.
Never shared between firms.
One firm's record is unreachable from another, and the agents inherit that boundary rather than sitting above it.
The privacy page states the arrangement, and the questions to put to any vendor in this category are written out in full, including the ones we would rather not be asked.

Tell us about yours, and we will tell you straight whether Docenta is the right thing for it.
